Branches are piled high on the artist’s family’s century-old children’s bed. For Predetermined Life of A Big Eyes Loving Human, Martina Morger collected wood blown down by storms in Balzers, the artist’s birthplace in Liechtenstein, and arranged it by hand. Stacked with great care and effort, the branches balance with apparent ease on the cot, yet threaten to fall at any moment. In a battle of wills with gravity, the installation asserts a sense of protection and security.
Lullaby for Lime is a sound piece that Martina Morger wrote for a lime tree near her Berlin studio. The lime tree holds special significance for the artist and simultaneously represents all trees in urban areas that are appreciated yet often overlooked. The lullaby invites the city trees to rest – and in this gesture also hints at the possibility of exhaustion, retreat and death.
